Buckingham Palace
If you wish to explore a key place in British royal history, look no further than to Buckingham Palace in the City of Westminster. It is used as the London residence and administrative headquarters of the monarchy of the United Kingdom.
The stunning palace has seen great history unfold. For example, the palace was bombed during World War II and was also center of attention during the suffragette march in May 1914. But it has also seen great moments of wonderful celebration, such as garden parties and royal receptions.
Buckingham Palace was built in 1703 and at the time named Buckingham House. Originally it was the home of John Sheffield, the 1st Duke of Buckingham, and first became a royal residence when King George III purchased it in 1761.
Inside the palace you find the Grand Entrance, where the Queen welcomes her guests, and beautiful rooms, which will take your breath away – such as the impressive Ball Room, which was built to host epic entertainments. There is also the magnificent White Drawing Room, where a chandelier that dates to the 1800s hangs from the ceiling. This is also where the Queen hosts receptions. In fact, there is a secret door inside the room, through which the Queen makes her entrance.
If you stand outside the palace, you quickly notice the perfect symmetry of the building – and if you don’t believe us, then you better check it out for yourself! Besides visiting the actual Palace, we can offer you these extra experiences:
